I just finished reading the Trade Paperback release of “Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows”.  It has been a very long time since I’ve had a TPB hold my attention so much that I read it cover-to-cover in one sitting.  I enjoyed this story in such a deeply personal way that upon finishing it, I was inspired to sit down and type out this post in hopes that it may inspire others to read it as well.

Please, read on!  And fear not, for there are no significant spoilers to this TPB contained within this post.  I’m not going to talk about the story, but only briefly touch upon the family dynamic.

Why Friends Disappear after having Kids January 18, 2011

Lately, I’ve been thinking about some of my old friends and how I haven’t seen them in many years.  After I had kids, several of them seemed to stop calling or visiting… and that was to be expected.  Of course, most of them probably thought that I was the one who dropped out.

Well… perception is reality.  So for those “child-free” folks out there who just don’t seem to understand why your friend who just had a kid has suddenly disappear from their social lives… here’s the scoop from someone who’s gone through it.

Since Delaware is expecting a big snow tonight, I’m going to be looking to keep the family warm indoors.  To that end, I’m planning a few distractions to keep my daughters entertained over the weekend.  For starters, I’ve Netflix’ed a movie for them to watch and dug out a couple of board games.  Couple that with some playtime in the snow and some quiet reading time, and the weekend should be pretty well spent.

In addition to all that, I’d like to prepare a little comfort food for the family.  As a Celt, there’s one dish that always fits into this category for me… mashed potatoes.  Now, plain mashers seems a tad bland… so to quote Emeril Lagasse, I’m going to “kick it up a notch!”

For dinner, my plan is to make Champ!
